  The iconic still life composition is the focus of this class. Students draw their still life in charcoal while exploring the fundamentals of drawing including seeing proportions, shapes, and values. After working out the drawing, students will paint their still life in oil while next learning paint mixing, paint application, and how to use a working procedure to paint in a representational manner. Instructor will provide individual instruction and give class demonstrations. Class designed for adults and students 14 years and older, and are open to all levels of ability.   Be a Scholar for a Day Join us and learn about the ancient Chinese Scholars’ daily rituals combining the 4 Arts and the 4 Skills. This course combines discussion with hands-on activities, and culminates with a Certificate. Topics included: the lunar calendar; calligraphy and brush painting; Chinese floral arts; and tea cultures. The course concludes with a practice Tea Ceremony.   Quick Sketch methods are great for conceptual design, for capturing motion, for visual documentation, and for creative expression. In this beginning course, discover how to use a variety of techniques and drawing media, including line drawing, pen/ink, scribble lines, minimalism, and gesture drawing while engaging in artistic exercises, such as ambidextrous drawing and blind drawing. Bring to the first class: two or three #2 pencils (or soft leaded pencils), bonded paper (10-15 sheets), soft eraser, straight edge or ruler. Additional supplies may be required. Note: Drawing experience is welcomed, but not necessary. $7 materials fee payable in class.
