The odds that you will need long-term care are greater than you might imagine. Long-term care need does not age discriminate, in fact, 40% of patients receiving long-term care are under age 65. Take this quiz. If you develop a chronic illness or become disabled: How could you care for yourself? Who would you count on to care for you? Do you know how to protect yourself? What is Long-Term care insurance? Could you financially afford the care? Are you comfortable depleting your assets to pay for care? The average cost of a home health care aide is $20 per hour.  True or False? The average annual cost for a facility room is greater than $75,000.  True or False? Financial considerations aside, Long-Term Care Insurance (LTCi) is about peace of mind and control. Having it ensures you will have access to first-rate care should you need it without being dependent upon others or being a burden to your children. This workshop describes ways to protect yourself, defines long-term care insurance, and explains why LTCi is not for everyone. Private medical insurance and Medicare also are discussed.
