Includes Lunch at Fogo de Chão This new tour pairs two of downtown L.A.’s newest destinations – featuring eclectic art and an elegant lunch – a true feast for your eyes and your belly! It was in the works for years…it’s complicated architecture created construction delays after delays…but when it debuted in 2015, The Broad blew away all expectations and not only changed the landscape of downtown L.A. but changed the way museum’s display art. The $140 million contemporary art museum financed by billionaire philanthropists and art collectors Eli and Edythe Broad is the repository for some of the most expensive artwork on the planet – most of it from the Broads’ personal collection of over 2,000 pieces – it is one of the most prominent holdings of contemporary art worldwide. With only 250 pieces on display at any one time, each visit here presents new opportunities to question, debate and appreciate. Enjoy approximately 90 minutes at leisure to explore on a self-guided visit with a VIP (no waiting) entrance. This afternoon we enjoy an included lunch at Fogo de Chão, the authentic Brazilian Steakhouse that opened in this downtown location in 2015. The Brazilian steakhouse tradition begins at the Market Table where you can return as many times as you like for fresh seasonal salads, exotic vegetables, imported cheeses, smoked salmon, cured meats, seasonal soup and more. Once you’re seated, the authentic Brazilian side dishes arrive – warm pão de queijo (cheese bread), crispy polenta, mashed potatoes, and caramelized bananas. Set your dining card to green and you’re in the rodizio – continuous tableside service of signature cuts of meat prepared, fire-roasted and served by the gaucho chefs. The variety of meats include top and bottom sirloin, chicken (breast, bacon-wrapped breast and legs) and the slow roasted and savory pork sausage. In Brazilian culture, this is all part of the grilled-meat feasts from the street to churrascarias like Fogo de Chão, where they honor gaucho tradition, one carved slice at a time. Be sure to leave room for dessert – family-style platters with bite size New York cheesecake, Key lime pie, chocolate mousse cake and turtle cheesecake. Enjoy time at leisure at the Last Bookstore, the iconic L.A. bookstore housed in the grand atrium of what was once a bank. The bookstore specializes in reasonably priced used books, and takes great pride in offering a selection of well-kept vintage books as well. Anyone who has ever loved a vintage book will know exactly what that means for the musty, decadent smell that hangs in the air in this seemingly sacred place. There is a section of hardbacks arranged by color. Most of the fiction is purposefully unarranged, meant to inspire treasure hunts among shoppers. Every book in the upstairs section is $1. In short, every inch of the place is designed to make book lovers fall in love with it, and it succeeds! Click here for important trip information.

Adamson House & Will Rogers’ Ranch House with Malibu Country Mart Escape to the beautiful Malibu coast to enjoy several of its most enchanting sites. Enjoy a docent-guided walking tour of the Adamson House – a beautiful, 1929 Moorish-Spanish Colonial Revival Style residence on the Malibu coast that was built for the Adamson family, who owned most of the Malibu coast. The lavish use of exquisite ceramic tile, produced by Malibu Potteries, is a hallmark of the house. You will tour the inside of the house containing the original furnishings, and learn about its history, details of the architecture, and the story of the family who once lived in this distinctive home. The house and grounds share one of the most beautiful beach locations in Southern California. Also, visit the on-site Malibu Lagoon Museum which contains a collection of artifacts and rare photographs depicting the colorful history of Malibu. Following, enjoy lunch on your own at the Malibu Country Mart – a pleasantly informal, yet trendy, outdoor shopping and dining complex where the celebrities often dine. This afternoon we will embark on a docent-guided tour of the private ranch house of the world-famous movie star, radio personality, columnist, philosopher, and American Cowboy, Will Rogers. In 1944, to honor his life-long spirit of generosity, Will Rogers’ wife deeded the family’s 186-acre ranch to the State of California. Overlooking the ocean in Pacific Palisades, this 31-room home – filled with wonderful memorabilia of this great man’s life – is the centerpiece of Will Rogers State Historic Park and is indicative of a California ranch lifestyle that was casual, comfortable, and gracefully social. Suggested: Comfortable walking shoes as there is considerable walking and uneven walkways on this tour. Click here for important trip information.

“J.F.K.’s Life & Times” Exhibit at Bowers Museum Includes Buffet Lunch at The Hacienda We begin this memorable day with an included southwestern lunch buffet at The Hacienda (same owner as Tivoli Terrace in Laguna Beach), a historic estate built in 1901 that was once part of an orange and avocado ranch. The whitewashed adobe and charming courtyard exhibit southwest style at its best with garden courtyards, fountains, romantic balconies entwined in ivy, grand staircases and antiques. Next, we venture to the lovely Bowers Museum, one of California’s finest museums, for a docent-guided tour of the special limited-time exhibit, American Visionary: John F. Kennedy’s Life and Times. It celebrates the life, political career, and extraordinary vision of one of the country’s most admired and most charismatic presidents. No single politician was photographed more than JFK – from his direct congressional bid as a decorated war hero in 1948, to his fairytale marriage to Jacqueline Bouvier in 1953 to his run for the White House, his role as Commander-In-Chief, his commitment to the arts, his travels around the world, and the final tragedy in Dallas. American Visionary captures the dramatic scope of Kennedy’s life through the presentation of over 70 photographs and is the most exhaustively researched collections of Kennedy photos ever assembled. The exhibition is produced in association with the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library. Also enjoy time to browse the Bowers’ permanent collection and lovely gallery store.
