With Arabian Horse Show Includes Buffet Lunch Nestled among a lush landscape and blanketed by walnut trees, the home of cereal baron W.K. Kellogg is a spacious ranch-style home originally built in 1926. A guided tour of his home which sits upon a hill overlooking the Cal Poly Pomona campus, will showcase the mixture of architectural styles that creates a very charming, yet historic, feel. See the outside garden terraces and courtyards, the Grand Room, the main dining room, and the kitchen. Then enjoy an included buffet lunch at the campus’ Kellogg West restaurant, before we take our seats for the Arabian Horse Show at the W.K. Kellogg Arabian Horse Center.   Coastal Train Ride & Chocolate Treats We begin this decadent day as we motorcoach to San Juan Capistrano to board an Amtrak train for a ride along the coast to downtown San Diego – the ocean views along this protected stretch of coastline are spectacular! Our motorcoach will meet us at San Diego’s downtown Santa Fe Station and transport us to the waterfront shops and restaurants at Seaport Village and the “Headquarters,” with time at leisure for lunch on your own. Our next stop will be in Little Italy for a slice of decadent chocolate cake at a San Diego institution specializing in an ever-changing menu of sweets that are baked fresh daily and hailed as some of the best desserts in the region. The pastry chef-owner of this shop has won national awards for her cakes, pastries and other treats, the creativity of which have all been inspired by her trips to exotic places. Next, you’re in for a real treat as you indulge in a miniature chocolate cream pie at a local favorite pie shop specializing in ‘whole’ pies because it’s more fun to not have to slice and enjoy your own individual pie! Here, they pride themselves on using real ingredients, such as pure butter, premium chocolate, real cream and local eggs – you can taste the difference! We will motorcoach home.   Adamson House & Will Rogers’ Ranch House with Malibu Country Mart Escape to the beautiful Malibu coast to enjoy several of its most enchanting sites. Enjoy a docent-guided walking tour of the Adamson House – a beautiful, 1929 Moorish-Spanish Colonial Revival Style residence on the Malibu coast that was built for the Adamson family, who owned most of the Malibu coast. The lavish use of exquisite ceramic tile, produced by Malibu Potteries, is a hallmark of the house. You will tour the inside of the house containing the original furnishings, and learn about its history, details of the architecture, and the story of the family who once lived in this distinctive home. The house and grounds share one of the most beautiful beach locations in Southern California. Also, visit the on-site Malibu Lagoon Museum which contains a collection of artifacts and rare photographs depicting the colorful history of Malibu. Following, enjoy lunch on your own at the Malibu Country Mart – a pleasantly informal, yet trendy, outdoor shopping and dining complex where the celebrities often dine. This afternoon we will embark on a docent-guided tour of the private ranch house of the world-famous movie star, radio personality, columnist, philosopher, and American Cowboy, Will Rogers. In 1944, to honor his life-long spirit of generosity, Will Rogers’ wife deeded the family’s 186-acre ranch to the State of California. Overlooking the ocean in Pacific Palisades, this 31-room home – filled with wonderful memorabilia of this great man’s life – is the centerpiece of Will Rogers State Historic Park and is indicative of a California ranch lifestyle that was casual, comfortable, and gracefully social. Suggested: Comfortable walking shoes as there is considerable walking and uneven walkways on this tour. Click here for important trip information.

“J.F.K.’s Life & Times” Exhibit at Bowers Museum Includes Buffet Lunch at The Hacienda We begin this memorable day with an included southwestern lunch buffet at The Hacienda (same owner as Tivoli Terrace in Laguna Beach), a historic estate built in 1901 that was once part of an orange and avocado ranch. The whitewashed adobe and charming courtyard exhibit southwest style at its best with garden courtyards, fountains, romantic balconies entwined in ivy, grand staircases and antiques. Next, we venture to the lovely Bowers Museum, one of California’s finest museums, for a docent-guided tour of the special limited-time exhibit, American Visionary: John F. Kennedy’s Life and Times. It celebrates the life, political career, and extraordinary vision of one of the country’s most admired and most charismatic presidents. No single politician was photographed more than JFK – from his direct congressional bid as a decorated war hero in 1948, to his fairytale marriage to Jacqueline Bouvier in 1953 to his run for the White House, his role as Commander-In-Chief, his commitment to the arts, his travels around the world, and the final tragedy in Dallas. American Visionary captures the dramatic scope of Kennedy’s life through the presentation of over 70 photographs and is the most exhaustively researched collections of Kennedy photos ever assembled. The exhibition is produced in association with the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library. Also enjoy time to browse the Bowers’ permanent collection and lovely gallery store.
