Our workshop will focus on American free-verse poetry written out of the Whitman tradition; will involve a deep exploration of your poetry; and will share great poems of the past century. Poems must be submitted to the instructor at least one day before each class, preferably several days before. The instructor will share your poem with each workshop participant via the PCC email portal. Our class sessions will begin with a poetry reading of all material submitted. Then we will work through each poem with a focus upon understanding what each poet is trying to accomplish. Although students are expected to write at least one original poem for each workshop, do not avoid coming to class if you have not written one. Hearing other students’ poems may inspire you in a way that sitting alone with your thoughts may not. Class is designed for adults.
