The haunting sound of the Native American flute can be heard everywhere from streaming playlists, YouTube, and TikTok, to yoga studios, sound baths, powwows, and national parks. The traditional Native American cedar flute is inexpensive, small, and lightweight to carry. It is beginner-friendly and the basics can be learned relatively easily in a few hours. The instrument is traditionally played without needing to read sheet music, and no prior music instruction or experience is necessary. Beginners can progress quickly, and be able to improvise their own simple melodies, played “from the heart” almost immediately. $80 materials fee payable in class for a handmade precision-tuned “Little Horse” Eastern Red Cedar Traditional Native American-Style Flute in A minor. Students who wish to use their own instrument for the course must obtain advance permission from the instructor to insure their instrument is compatible.
