Join us for an honest evaluation of your poetry. Students will be asked to write and submit a poem by email to the instructor before each session so they may be studied in advance; and the instructor will share each poem by email with the class to read before each session. Each session will begin with a poetry reading of all material submitted, after which we will work through each poem focused upon understanding what each poet is trying to accomplish. This workshop focuses upon American free-verse poetry written out of the Whitman tradition. Additionally, the instructor will share great poems of the past century. “Although students are expected to write at least one original poem for each workshop, do not avoid coming to class because you have not written one. You may learn about your writing by listening to the criticism of another students’ work; and hearing other students’ poems may inspire you in a way that sitting alone with your thoughts may not.” (Wakoski)  Class is designed for adults.
