Enjoy a lovely day in the charming gold-mining town of Julian – nestled among a forest of oak and pine trees in the beautiful Cuyamaca Mountains. This morning we will stop in Santa Ysabel at Dudley’s Bakery for an opportunity to purchase their freshly baked breads and pies, before we continue along the mountain roads to Julian (elevation 4,200 feet). The entire town is a designated historic district and the shops and restaurants are housed in Victorian-style buildings dating back to the 1870s. While in Julian enjoy the entire time at leisure in this quaint mountain town for lunch on own, browsing, and the annual Julian Wildflower Show – an historical event at Town Hall each May for over 95 years! Or, after time for lunch on your own (and an additional $10 cash or check payable to your tour director), join an informative guide for a 60-minute walking tour deep into a gold mine (in and out of different tunnels and multiple levels) to learn the history of the mine. Suggested:
If you are taking the optional mine tour: walking shoes (considerable walking and stairs), and sweater or jacket as it can be cool in the mine. Click here for important trip information.
